Description
Permabond F201HV – Hydrogen‑Certified Anaerobic Sealant for Metal Pipe Joints
Permabond F201HV is a toughened, high‑strength anaerobic adhesive designed for sealing and retaining threaded metal pipe assemblies and concentric copper/brass fittings. Unlike conventional anaerobics, F201HV contains a rubber‑modified matrix that provides excellent resistance to peel, impact, and vibration, making it suitable for demanding service conditions where traditional thread sealants may fail.
The product is KIWA approved for use with gas and hydrogen (Inorm KE214) and WRAS listed for contact with wholesome (potable) water, making it a trusted choice for critical systems including hydrogen pipelines, gas networks, hot and cold water services, and process piping. It cures anaerobically in close‑fitting metal joints (gap < 0.5 mm), forming a durable, pressure‑tight seal that resists loosening under thermal cycling and mechanical stress.
Supplied as a single‑component, room‑temperature curing adhesive, F201HV requires no mixing or weighing. It is ideal for sealing parallel and tapered threads and for bonding dissimilar metals such as brass, copper, aluminium, and steel, where differential expansion and contraction could otherwise compromise the joint.
Key Benefits
-
Hydrogen‑certified adhesive – KIWA Inorm KE214 approved for use with hydrogen gas, as well as other gases and hot water.
-
WRAS listed for potable water – Suitable for sealing pipework and fittings in contact with wholesome (drinking) water.
-
Toughened, impact‑resistant formulation – Rubber‑modified matrix absorbs vibration and impact stress without cracking.
-
High bond strength – Typical shear strength around 30 MPa on steel; excellent resistance to peel and fatigue.
-
Ideal for dissimilar metals – Good adhesion to aluminium and copper alloys; accommodates differential thermal expansion.
-
Replaces welding and brazing – Provides a permanent, pressure‑tight seal on threaded metal joints without heat or specialist fabrication.
-
Room‑temperature cure – Single‑component anaerobic adhesive; no mixing or weighing required.
Typical Applications
Permabond F201HV is used across gas, hydrogen, water, and industrial process systems for:
-
Sealing threaded metal pipework in hydrogen, gas, and water services
-
Bonding and retaining concentric copper/brass fittings and similar assemblies
-
Sealing valves, couplings, and other fixtures in hydrogen and gas pipelines
-
Locking and sealing dissimilar metal joints (e.g. brass to copper, aluminium to steel) where thermal cycling occurs
-
General industrial maintenance where a strong, permanent, pressure‑resistant anaerobic seal is required
How It Works
Permabond F201HV cures anaerobically in the absence of air and in the presence of metal ions within close‑fitting joints (typical gap fill up to 0.3–0.5 mm). Once confined between metal surfaces, the adhesive gels and then cures to a tough, thermoset plastic that fills thread voids and creates a 100% metal‑to‑metal contact seal.
